This film is awesome...

I see that some people who saw this film obviously did not get it. It is packed with homo-erotic subtleties (and not so subleties) that are just hilarious! Sure, the animation wasn't so great, but that was obviously due to budget constraints. If Hollywood had done this movie (which they never would) the graphics would have been spectacular. This movie is a true homage to Spinal Tap and done with a flair that both rebels against traditional Japanese stiff stereotypes and embraces the true spirit of comedy. And, it is not for folks who frequent the mall cineplexes by any stretch of the imagination. (my comment will go under Ski Jumping Pairs - the road to Torino, too - since that's the film that was commented on below)

Ski Jumping Pairs – Road to Torino 2006 is a 'film' any potential viewer should be warned to avoid. The sport of tandem ski jumping is detailed, from its early days as a scientific theory, through years of development and competition, ending with it's acceptance and inclusion in the 2006 Winter Olympics. The entire thing is a put-on of course, intended to poke fun at competitive sports and sports documentaries in general. This insultingly bad film is so mind-numbingly dull and crudely made with such a tremendous lack of creative intelligence it becomes a coma inducing experience. The actual competition footage is produced using rudimentary computer animation similar in quality to interactive video games from at least ten years ago. Why this film was accepted for presentation is unclear. There were a number of laughs from the audience throughout the preview screening, which only proves some folks will laugh at anything.

A rare find: a sports parody without Will Farrell

This is the hilarious prequel to the full length "Ski Jumping Pairs: Road to Torino". And although it is a parody, it is obviously done with a lot of love for the Winter Olympics and competitive sports in general. (I would not have been able to demonstrate such restraint as I happen to think certain sports need to not take themselves so seriously. Ribbon gymnastic dancers, anyone?)

The wacky positions that the teams take are incredible. Just thinking of their names make me smile: Imperial Eagle, Flying Church, Titanic, just to name a few. The "Koala" formation is almost a bit risqué, but you'll be laughing at all of them, too.

You can catch this DVD over at www.Filmporium.com The five dollar DVD is paired up with the sharply witty "Astronauts" and the brilliant "Das Rad".
