The display case in Charlie's office supposedly contains the military awards of her father, who was apparently a U.S. Marine as denoted by the large Marine Corps emblem at the top of the display. However, the case contains two Navy marksmanship medals and a Navy Good Conduct Medal ribbon. These awards are not given to Marines, since the Marine Corps has its own unique marksmanship badges and Good Conduct Medal.
On the wall of Dr. Charlie's office is a display of her father's U.S. Marine Corps awards. Among these is the Combat Action Ribbon, which is awarded only to those who actively participated in combat. But the display's Vietnam Service Medal ribbon has no campaign stars on it to indicate battle participation.
