A great documentary by a most interesting film maker about an amazing man. The candid style and poignant voice-over makes for compelling viewing. This is a movie dear to the heart of the film maker.

This film in particular is of great importance to him - the subject matter being so close to the film maker.

Maciunas was his countryman and friend. Leader of the art movement Fluxus, his work has inspired Mekas and numerous other important artists.

The title 'Zefiro Torna' refers to the Monteverdi madrigal for two tenors which close the film. The opening sequence is set to another Monteverdi madrigal, Chiome D'oro. Maciunas dearly loved this music, having once stated that "no music of any importance has been written since Monteverdi"!

Mekas is a living legend whose films deserve a wider public. I rate this film highly for its content and for its significance as a central work by one of the most important figures in the history of the avante-garde.
