French production powerhouse Banijay Entertainment is expanding its growing TV empire stateside with Angel City Factory, a new U.S.-based company it has launched with veteran reality producers Chris Cowan and Jean-Michel Michenaud.
Meanwhile, Cowan and Michenaud have dissolved their 11-year-old company Rocket Science Laboratories, which hit it big at the beginning of the decade with the Fox hits "Temptation Island" and "Joe Millionaire."
Banijay CEO Guillaume De Verges said his company had been working for weeks to reach an agreement with Cowan and Michenaud.
"They're true inventors and producers, they have a great relationship with Fox, and we've worked with them in the past," De Verges said. "We know the U.S. quite well, but not better than them."
Cowan and Michenaud have strong ties to Fox, home of most of their series, including "Island," "Millionaire," "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance," "Married by America," "Trading Spouses," "Renovate My Family" and,...

The Steven Spielberg/Mark Burnett produced reality series has certainly had a tough time attracting viewers on Fox. Still, the network seems committed to seeing the filmmaking competition through to its completion (perhaps because of an expensive cancellation fee). Unfortunately, the series isn't so lucky overseas.
The South African Broadcasting Corp. (SABC2) began airing On the Lot on July 19th and by all accounts has been attracting a decent number of viewers for that area -- about 1.4 million. For some unknown reason, SABC2 has pulled the series from their lineup effective immediately and replaced it with a self-improvement series Renovate My Family, hosted by Dr. Phil's son Jay McGraw.
As for the reason for On the Lot being pulled, the channel sites "unforeseen circumstances" and would only say that they "had encountered problems with the production." Whatever that really means, it must be pretty serious. The channel had been heavily promoting the series,...

ABC tops competitors with 'Titans'
Monday night belonged to ABC and Denzel Washington. ABC's 8-11 p.m. airing of the 2000 Washington starrer Remember the Titans put the network over the top for the night in the key adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Titans, which finished out with an average of 8.7 million viewers and 3.1 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, built steadily throughout its three-hour time slot, peaking from 9:30-10 p.m. at 9.7 million viewers and 3.7/9 in the demo. ABC won the rerun-laden night in adults 18-49 but CBS prevailed in total viewers (8.9 million) thanks to repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men from 8-10 p.m. The eye network's 10 p.m. encore of CSI: Miami (9.9 million, 3.2/9) as usual was the most-watched program of the night. Fox had no traction with its two-hour dose of original episodes of Renovate My Family (3.3 million, 1.4/4).
