Kazakh cinema shows the real beauty of Kazakh landscape
A close look at Kazakh film "Okhotnik" will tell that its director Serik Aprymov wanted to combine mythological elements and a manner of realist narration for his film.In "Okhotnik" his idea has been to express the complexity and contradictions of two worlds : One of men and one of wild animals.Serik Aprymov has used poetic symbols and comic elements in his film as he feels that the notions of good and evil are not universal. In "Okhotnik" we get a chance to have a close look at the beauty of nature as visual richness of Kazakh Steppe is superbly shot in order to narrate the coming of age of a young Kazakh boy.He is very much like French iconoclast Antoine Doinel but he is little unlucky as there are not many around him who understand his pain.It is through this film that we learn that not much has changed in Kazakh steppes. We also witness that people are still living following ancient customs and traditions. This is a film without a real story in the conventional sense of the world. We are shown a young rebel who does not have much choice as after a shooting incident he decides to follow the experienced hunter. This is a film which requires dedicated viewings as it is not a typical western.
