The city shown at the beginning of the film is NOT Salvador, but Rio de Janeiro. The church on the left is the Outeiro da Gloria and in the background, the conic building is the Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro. The Barril 1800 bar / restaurant shown is also in Rio.
When Briggs is investigating the names of children who died in fires during the past few years, he comes across one and reads the name out loud as "Vasquez", yet the newspaper article and Briggs' own notes say, "Valdez".
