Good if a little disappointing

I like Andrea Bocelli, I find him passionate and moving and I think he has a beautiful, distinctive tone to his voice. Having loved his other DVDs especially A Night in Tuscany(to me one of the most memorable concert DVDs I've seen), perhaps my expectations were a little too high, I was a little disappointed with Tuscan Skies. Nothing about it is bad, just that I liked his other DVDs better. The music is wonderful, with the standouts being L'Abitudine and E Sara' A Settembre, Bocelli sings absolutely beautifully throughout as do the likes of Helena Hellwig, I loved the footage of Bocelli getting ready for each performance, they were interesting and showed that he was as much of a pleasure to speak to as well as to listen to and the sceneries and images are spectacular. However, I do agree about the sound, the music and singing are appropriately vivid but marred by background noises such as the horses neighing, inevitable perhaps but distracting. Another problem was that here I didn't get much of an emotional connection in the way I did watching Night in Tuscany for example, the structure of the DVD and images read more of a slide-show which while the images were wonderful to watch detracted from the emotional impact it could have had. Also, while not as problematic, there are a couple of images showing human relationship that seemed as though they were trying too hard to give any sort of emotional depth. This was especially true of the male model holding the baby. All in all, pleasant enough but not quite on par with Bocelli's other DVDs. Worth watching for the music, sceneries and Bocelli's voice, but anyone looking for a genuine sense of atmosphere and emotional connection may find themselves underwhelmed. 7/10 Bethany Cox

The Only Below-Par Bocelli DVD

The popular opera-pop singer gives tribute to his home town and his family in a series of videos accompanied by almost a dozen songs. This is pretty short at 53 minutes and I found it not up to the standards of his concert programs. However, all the songs are nice, mellow and well-sung, as usual. But, to me, some of the songs are marred by sounds from the accompanying video, such as horses making noises, people talking. This goes on during the middle of some songs and is too distracting.

I want to hear Bocelli's voice - period, not horses whinnying at the same time!

There are some nice shots of the Italian scenery All in all, decent but nothing spectacular and below-par as far as a Bocelli offering.
