A young man gets wrongly framed for drug trafficking and killed in a fake encounter by corrupt police force, the victim's brother vows to bring the killers to justice and to end the tyranny of their corrupt system.

Aditya Shrivastav is a deserted army officer. He has a brother, Anuj. Anuj gets angry at Aditya one day and runs away. ACP Yashwant Thakur helps Aditya in finding Anuj, and later tells him that Anuj was killed in an encounter. Aditya reads a police report, which stated that Anuj was running away with drugs, and was shot dead on the spot. Aditya can't quite believe this so investigates himself. He later meets Ramona, who reveals that ACP Yashwant Thakur and his two other police officers killed Anuj for no apparent reason and lied to cover it up. Aditya wants to take the matter to court and chooses Payal as his lawyer. However, after losing the case, Aditya decides to take matters into his own hands by holding the three until they confess their crime. This was successful and, having secretly recorded this evidence, shows it to the Police Commissioner.—gavin (gunmasterM@hotmail.com)

Army deserter Aditya Shrivastav gets upset with his brother, Anuj, for being in wrong company. Anuj apologizes, but soon thereafter is in trouble again - this time attempting to steal and leak examination papers from his college. The College Principal, out of empathy for Aditya, does not press criminal charges against Anuj, but decides to rusticate him from college until and unless he provides the names of his friends who were also involved in this theft. Anuj refuses to do, quarrels with Aditya and runs away from home. A few days later, Aditya identifies Anuj's body in the morgue - he had been shot and killed by the police for drug trafficking. Aditya is devastated by his death, and does not believe his brother was capable of handling drugs. Together with his former lawyer girlfriend, Payal,he attempts to find out what made Anuj a drug trafficker.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

Major Aditya Shrivastav (Bobby Deol) is a court marshaled army officer and now runs a travel agency. He has a brother, Anuj (Ritesh Deshmukh). Anuj is a college student who is asthmatic and drinks and smokes (due to which he has ended up in emergencies quiet a few times). Aditya is disciplined and serious, while Anuj is shown to be frequenting clubs and spending his time in the company of his friends. Aditya and Anuj lost their father Dinanath (Aanjjan Srivastav) when Aditya was 10 years old.

Anuj gets angry at Aditya one day and runs away. Anuj was caught stealing college question papers as he and his friends were promised Rs 20,000 for them. But Anuj was the only one apprehended. Aditya saves him from rustication in front of college principal (Naresh Suri) only if Anuj reveals the names of his friends who ran away that night. Anuj refuses to betray his friends that tells Aditya that a bigger blot on the family was the day when Aditya was fired from the Army for running away from the battlefield. Anuj retorts that he has been living with that humiliation for many years and that Aditya has no right to lecture him on honor.

Flashback: Aditya was a brave army commander who had led many missions against terrorists and Naxals in India and was injured in the line of duty. He is engaged to lawyer Payal (Lara Dutta) who is the daughter of Army Lieutenant Colonel Senior Officer (Surendra Pal). He was fired when he refused to shoot a little boy (even after direct orders by his CO) who was being used by Pakistan to pass messages to its agents in India. Aditya argues that the boy does not know that he is being used as agent by the enemy to pass messages (through a pouch around his neck). Payal wants Aditya to sign an apology letter, but he refuses. Aditya decides to leave town after court martial, but Payal doesn't go with him, as her dad is against what Aditya did.

Anuj's friends are Mohit (Kunal S. Kapur), Karan (Chandrashekhar Gautam) and Amit (Ashwin Kumar), who also have no knowledge of Anuj's location. Aditya is worried when Anuj doesn't return for 2 days. He reports to the police.

Inspector Yadav (Ganesh Yadav) at first refuses to write Aditya's FIR. Constable Mehmood (Veerendra Saxena) is sympathetic towards Aditya. ACP Yashwant Thakur (Rahul Dev) steps in and pretends to help Aditya. Thakur tells Aditya to inquire in local hospitals and also asks for a photo of Anuj, so the police can start their investigation. One of the friends finds Anuj's body in a morgue. The mortician says that the unclaimed body was encountered by the police in a drugs related case. Aditya is not able to immerse Anuj's ashes in the holy river, as he believes that he needs to get him justice first and remove the tag of "criminal" from his name.

Later Thakur tells him that Anuj was killed in an encounter which Aditya refuses to accept. Aditya reads a police report (with the help from Mehmood, after Yadav & Thakur flatly refuse to share a copy of the police report with him as the case has been closed) which states that Anuj was running away with drugs in his car (and had fired shots at the police who was following him) and was shot dead on the spot by Yadav, Thakur and Inspector Sawant (Vishwajeet Pradhan). Aditya can't quite believe this, so he investigates it.

Aditya asks Mehmood again, but this time he refuses to help him anymore. Aditya says that Mehmood had indicated that he had met Anuj before, but as per the sequence of events in the police report, there was no way that Mehmood could have met Anuj prior to his encounter.

Aditya later meets Ramona (Tara Sharma) whose name and address he finds in Anuj's belongings, who reveals that ACP Yashwant Thakur, and his two other police officers brutally killed Anuj for no apparent reason. Ramona says that after fighting with Aditya, Anuj had come to meet her. Anuj and Ramona were talking in their car where Anuj was sorry about upsetting his brother. The policemen were drunk and were hitting on Ramona. When Anuj objected, Thakur and his 2 officers (Yadav and Sawant) locked Anuj up and beat him brutally, till he died due to an Asthma attack. Then they panicked and made it look like an encounter. Ramona was threatened to keep quiet, till Mehmood begged them to leave her be. Even now, Ramona is mentally traumatized by the events of that night.

Aditya wants to take the matter to court and chooses Payal (Lara Dutta) as his lawyer, after Payal contacts Aditya and warns him that the lawyer he has hired is in cahoots with Yashwant. Aditya has 2 key witnesses: Ramona and Mehmood. They meet Mehmood secretly and he agrees to testify. Yashwant figures out that Mehmood is collaborating with Aditya and kills Mehmood just as Aditya is about to enter the courthouse with him (he is mowed down by a car).

Their last chance is Ramona. Ramona agrees to testify but gets nervous looking at the 3 cops in the court room. She is a nervous wreck. But she still identifies the cops in court. During the lunch break, Ramona is taken away by her father. The defense lawyer claims that he has the right to cross question the witness. He also proves that she is a mental patient and as a result her testimony is removed from records.

After losing the case, Aditya decides to take matters into his own hands by holding and torturing the three captives until they confess their crime. Aditya basically allows Yashwant to get a upper hand, and he cockily admits that he killed Anuj, without knowing that Aditya was recording everything. He is successful and, having secretly recorded this evidence, shows it to the police commissioner; thus, avenging his brother's death. The last scene shows Aditya performing the final rites of Anuj.
