The Eye 2 (2004)

FAQ

The Eye 2

FAQ

Devastated by a breakup with her married lover Sam (Jesdaporn Pholdee), Joey Cheng (Shu Qi) attempts suicide, only to discover later that she is pregnant. Unfortunately, her attempt at suicide attracts ghosts, one of whom she fears might be trying to harm her baby.

Gin gwai 2 (The Eye 2) is a sequel to The Eye (2002) (2002), which was based on a screenplay by Chinese twin-brother screenwriters and directors, Danny Pang Fat and Oxide Pang Chun. The screenplay for Gin gwai 2 was written by Chinese screenwriters Jojo Hui and Lawrence Cheng. It was followed by The Eye 3 (2005) (2005).

It's not necessary. The two movies have nothing in common, with the exception that the main characters can see ghosts.

Like the first movie, Gin gwai 2 was filmed in Cantonese. There are also a few phrases in English. English subtitles are available.

Joey is being followed by Yuen Chi-Kei (Eugenia Yuan), the dead wife of Joey's lover.

Joey was under the protection of Chi-Kei who swore to protect Joey's baby.

Unwilling to let Yuen Chi-Kei reincarnate in her baby's body, Joey sneaks up to the hospital roof and jumps off while Chi-Kei watches. Bloodied but alive, Joey crawls back into the hospital, pulls herself up the stairs to the roof, and again jumps off, landing at Chi-Kei's feet. 'I won't let you die,' says Chi-Kei. 'All I want is to forget everything about this life.' Joey relents and allows Chi-Kei to slip into her womb. Joey is discovered lying on the cement and is whisked to the labor room where she gives birth. Some days later, she is visited by her friend Mrs Chow (Yuan Yuan Ren), who introduces her to her newborn son. 'He has the same birthmark as my father,' says Mrs Chow and shows Joey a photo. Joey recognizes him as the ghost she saw entering Mrs Chow's womb but says nothing. The nurse brings in Joey's baby, a little girl, and asks whether she'd like to feed her. Hesitantly, Joey takes the baby into her arms and asks to be forgiven. In the final scene, a number of pregnant women and their coaches sit on a gym floor practicing their breathing exercises. Standing near each couple is a ghost, waiting for their chance at rebirth.
