Larry Drake, R.D. Reid, and Bill Smitrovich in A Nero Wolfe Mystery (2001)

Goofs

Help Wanted, Male

A Nero Wolfe Mystery

Edit

Continuity

The same headline appears on the back of Fritz's newspaper several days later - apparently the same prop was used both times.

Factual errors

Archie's branch insignia on his lapels is correctly worn with the arrows up when talking to General Carpenter but incorrectly worn with the arrows down after returning to New York City.
Early in the story, Wolfe asks about Archie's work in Military Intelligence. The branch insignia of the Military Intelligence Service in 1945 was a gold shield with a sphinx but when Archie is in uniform, he wears the crossed arrows of the First Special Service Force (The Devil's Brigade). Crossed arrows are now the Special Forces branch insignia.

Revealing mistakes

In this episode, Archie Goodwin presumably in Army Intelligence, goes to Washington to see General Carpenter to request an overseas assignment. General Carpenter is seen wearing a Medical Corps insignia on his uniform.

Miscellaneous

Archie asks Fritz to look at an ad in the "Star," but the visible part of the banner on Fritz's newspaper says "NEW YORK R - ."

Anachronisms

The plot and dialogue indicate that this episode takes place during World War II. However, a news headline on Wolfe's morning paper reads, "Work completed on U.N. buildings." The United Nations was not founded until after WWII.

Character error

After General Colonel Dickey mentions two of the instances in history when France was invaded by enemies, Archie says: "And what the Dodgers tend to do to Cleveland". The Dodgers (Brooklyn then, Los Angeles now) are in the National League & Cleveland is in the American. At the time of World War 2, inter-league play was more than 50 years away.
