I`ve seen THIS IS DOM JOLY on the cable station BBC3 a couple of times and I absolutely hate it . Joly must be one of the most overrated comedians to appear on our TV screens and is certainly one of the most unfunny
The show is the same format as a chat show except Joly is as much a success as a chat show host as he is as a comedian . There`s always a music slot and one time blues band Gomez appeared where they played Stealing Piccadily which had been released as a single three years previously . Gomez are a very good band but if you can`t be bothered writing new material guys then don`t bother plugging old songs
It`s not just the guests that are irritating it`s the host himself . Joly insists on talking in a very loud voice very quickly which is very off putting for this viewer . There`s also a " One minute slot " where a guest ( A ballet dancer , a mime artist etc ) is invited to talk about their profession for sixty seconds only to have Joly interrupt during that time . Yeah I know that`s the joke but I`m unable to emphasise how unfunny it is the first time never mind having it repeated on every edition . One week the one minute slot was occupied by a home boy rapper who " hit " Joly for using the " N " word . Such a pity it was part of a comedy act because after watching this unfunny garbage I wanted to see someone punch Dom Joly for real
