Niet eens echt slecht
stuff2delete27 September 2004
Or, in English: Not that bad really.

This film could well have been made by Hollywood, situated in New York or Los Angeles. But as it happened, it's Dutch and set in The Hague. Other than that, it's just a thirteen-a-dozen romantic comedy. Now traditionally the Dutch have always been monumentally bad at making films like these. They were either overly artistic (and thus boring) or the production quality was so bad it makes Ed Wood look like Steven Spielberg. But as I said, this one is not that bad really. A bit of My Fair Lady, a hint of Bridget Jones, throw in Joan Collins for good measure and voila, a nice little flick you can watch and then forget about. It's not exactly an advertisement for Dutch cinema (like Zusje, Van God Los, Phileine zegt Sorry) but you won't evacuate the theater in a blind panic either.

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a bad movie. It's a good story, the script is good, and most of the actors are too. But Linda de Mol: it's too bad for words, she shouldn't act! She should keep it to presenting boring shows. She was very annoying in this movie, I tell you The story is nice, though not really believable. It's about a woman, named Ellis, who lives on her own, with her son. She works in a hotel, as a cleaner. One day, there is a conference in the hotel, because of Joan Collins. She has come to the Netherlands, to give lessons. Hoe een miljonair te trouwen: "how to marry a millionaire" She says she can turn anyone, really anyone, into something, that's actually good enough, to marry a millionaire. "Even that girl" she says, and she points to Ellis " I give you free lessons" Ellis is furious and walks away. But the next day she does come to the lessons, because her neighbor said she should. And so she does. She becomes a success. She even finds herself a millionaire to marry. But meanwhile, she's fallen in love with a whole other guy, who's not a millionaire and who's going to marry. He's in love with Ellis, but he still marry's the other girl, for the money. And Ellis wants to marry the millionaire she finds. You can all see how it's going to end. There are a lot of problems, but in the end, they both leave their husbands and marry each other.

Finally an entertaining movie of Dutch grounds
JannekevanderMeer24 August 2005
I was tipped to see this movie, so I rented it on DVD and saw the movie last night. And what a nice and entertaining movie. The mix of Dutch stars together with grand diva Joan Collins is supreme. A real comedy that makes you laugh. And finally a well done Dutch production, and that has been quite some time.

Linda de Mol, TV-host and actress is a single mother with always financial problems. During her work at the hotel as a cleaning lady, she meets Susan. Susan wrote the bestseller how to marry a millionaire and gives courses to ladies in their attempt to find a rich and wealthy man. Susan offers Ellis the course for free. With struggles Ellis finds her way in to the rich and famous, but is it that well to be worth fighting for? Finally Ellis has to make a decision: being rich and not as loved as she wants to be or will she choose for passion? Find out yourself!

Fun, fun, fun

Can't believe this has not been picked up internationally yet. Could be called HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE.

Good story, well crafted, and some hilarious jokes that come too close to the truth of the dating rules. Ever heard of the book THE RULES: HOW TO FIND A MAN AND GET HIM BEFORE THE ALTAR ? it looks like Joan Collins teaches from those rules. A must see for anyone over 35 and desperate to find the right husband. Linda de Mol delivers a decent performance (I never was a fan of her but do like her in this film) as a single mother desperate to give her child a better future. When her friends signs her up for a course "how to marry a rich man" she hates the idea at first, but when her ex-husband lets her down again by not paying for his son's soccer camp (the poor kid is left alone at the bus stop), she does sign up for the course. Joan Collins sees a next Cinderella in her. "good bone structure"...

Dutch Actress in Glamour Land on stage and behind the stage
yvonnepadmos23 March 2022
The love story is charming and her situations are very relatable. I could write a whole story about this movie. Linda de Mol played the role very well. The movie makes you laugh but probably some ladies will relate more than another to the story. As Dutch Actress myself I am very proud on the producers of the film. A movie made for the International market.
