Nicolas Cage in The Weather Man (2005)

Goofs

The Weather Man

Edit

Continuity

When David enters the bathroom and rinses, the mirror reveals that his watch is undone and hanging around his wrist. In the next shot, from a different angle, his watch is done up.
In the final archery scene, David removes all but one of his arrows from the target, then is distracted by someone asking for an autograph. In the following long shot, the final arrow has disappeared without David ever having removed it.
When David is talking to his father after being hit by a Wendy's Frosty, the stain on his collar changes throughout their conversation.
When Dave puts the new tag on his license plate, the first set of three numbers is separated from the second set of three numbers. Shortly thereafter, the front plate can be seen to be the same. But a few minutes later, a front shot of his car shows all six numbers in a row with no separation.
The right rear-view mirror of Robert's Jaguar is missing in one shot

Factual errors

When David is at Robert's house, we see Robert's Pulitzer Prize, a piece of carved engraved glass. Individual Prize winners actually receive a certificate.
When Dave buys the coffee in the Arby's, the total goes from $.72 to $.80. That would place the sales tax somewhere between 10.4% & 11.7%. No state, including Illinois where this movie takes place, has a sales tax that high on food.
When Dave is in New York in the interview and they say "Let's get some Blue Screen" it's not referred to as Blue Screen, it "Green Screen" in Broadcast and Film.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Freeze the scene immediately after Spritz deletes his book "Breaking Point" and there is still a Word file on his desktop labeled "Breaking Point", so he didn't actually completely delete it. However, when a file is deleted by one application, such as Word, other applications, such as Windows Explorer (which displays the desktop icons) don't update instantly. Sometime it can take several seconds for the changes to be reflected in other programs. Also, the icon on the desktop could be a shortcut to the actual file in My Documents, in which case the icon will not disappear automatically. It would have to be deleted separately.

Crew or equipment visible

At 1:20:44 after Spritz confronts Don in front of his house, the camera track can be very clearly seen on the sidewalk.

Errors in geography

At 19:57 in the movie on the wind-chill map, Sioux City should be Sioux Falls.
The parade scene at the very end is supposed to be in New York, but the firefighters' uniforms and the emblem on the firetruck are clearly from the Chicago Fire Department.
David Spritz tells the audience that the archery range he takes his daughter to is in Bollingbrook when in fact it's actually located on Main Street in Plainfield. Furthermore, he notes how it's a 90min drive from Chicago. Both Plainfield and Bollingbrook are just under an hour or so away from Chicago depending on traffic via i-355 or i-55 expressway. Lastly, he tells his daughter "we can go UP to the archery". Being in downtown Chicago when he says it, Bollingbrook is southwest of Chicago. He should have said "down"

Plot holes

When Shelly is coming back from New York with her father (Nicolas Cage) she's thoroughly happy with her new stylish clothes, but her mother (Hope Davis) doesn't pay attention. She only says something positive in a later scene. In view of Shelly's issues with her looks and former clothing, her mother's attitude is inconsistent with her character in the movie.

Character error

When David pays $1 for the coffee at Arby's, the charge is 80 cents, but the cashier only gives him a dime back, not two.
