Based on events that happened to Heath McKnight in 1997, and also on some things that happened to his friends.
Is part one of a trilogy called "The Lost and Found Trilogy", with SKYE FALLING as part one, the short film "Conversations..." as part two and the upcoming 9:04 AM as part three.
Was originally entitled "Bittersweet", until director Heath McKnight visited imdb.com and saw that there were already a few movies called "Bittersweet".
Heath McKnight claims that he listened to a lot of the British band Radiohead while writing, shooting and editing the movie.
Total time of production, from original conception (Christmas Eve 1997, not counting previous ideas fall 1997, or events that led up to it in summer 1997) to script (most of 1998 and part of 1999), pre-production, production (June 1999 to the last day of August 1999) to editing (first cut was done in January and February 2000 after a scrapped attempt in the fall of 1999, and final cut achieved between early 2000 and mid-2001) to theatrical release (July 30, 2001) to DVD production (interviews and commentary in January 2003 and more interviews in August 2003, everything else that fall) and release (October 2003), it was almost six years. (Heath's next feature, 9:04 AM, has been slowly developed since its conception in 1995, script in 1997 to development over the years to today, which is June 2005.)
