A behind the scenes look at the making of
Lolly-Madonna XXX (1973). The tone of the filming is set largely by director
Richard C. Sarafian and lead actor
Rod Steiger, whose concentration is infectious to the other actors. Steiger is complimentary of Sarafian and his fellow actors, especially veteran
Robert Ryan. The younger actors, such as
Jeff Bridges,
Season Hubley and
Joan Goodfellow are able to hold their own alongside the veterans, in large part because of Sarafian's style, he who welcomed input but was direct in relaying his final decisions. The actors are also amazed by Sarafian's agility which is despite his large physical stature. The story - a ten year violent land feud in the deep south - and the set, which was found in Tennessee and was not built, also set the tone for the movie.
