One of the freshest of situations has made it easy for the Essanay players to put sparkling comedy life into this mirthful picture. Unfortunately, we don't know who wrote it. The thrifty parson (Howard Missimer, always a jolly character) picks up a stray piece of kindling on the street. The spectator knows, but he doesn't, that a darkie wood- pile thief had passed that way and dropped it. the fatal stick; for Farmer Tightwad, who had noticed his wood-pile diminishing, had loaded it with enough powder to attract attention if exploded. Besides this primary plot, there is also an always-amusing atmosphere of village life and some good characters in it. Samanthy, especially, is good; she is played by Eleanor Blanchard. Chas. Huntington is the farmer and Chas. Hitchcock, the darkie. We notice many other Essanay stars in the picture, Steppling, Eva Prout, Beverly Bayne and others. A desirable picture. - The Moving Picture World, November 9, 1912
