Shafiqa al Koptiyya, the subject of this biopic, was a VERY famous dancer in Egypt in the early 20th century. She was reputed to be the originator of the now-traditional dance seen at Egyptian weddings in which the dancer balances an elaborate candelabrum known as a "shamadan" on her head.
Hassan al-Imam, the director of this film, made several films about dancers, but chose actresses who had no experience as working dancers to play those roles. So it was with Hind Rostom in this film - she played the role of a legendary dancer, but never worked as one herself.
