So I Cut My Stick And Away I Run
boblipton8 April 2020
A youth in a band uniform walks up a window and begins to saw on his trombone. Eventually a young woman in sleeping clothes comes out to canoodle. She is soon followed by her father.

This Lubin short film is named for a popular song of the 1880s, and doubtless the accompaniment made free use of the music, while the audience sang along. They used to have sing-alongs in the early Nickelodeon days, or in the vaudeville houses, where movies were often run between acts. Often you could buy the sheet music, particularly if it was a new song. However, given the age of the tune, it was doubtless simply there to please the crowd with an old favorite.

There's some nice camera trickery in this one, even though the set is clearly a stage.
