Favorite Game of All Time?
LeavesOfGreen3 April 2008
This game is definitely one of my favorite games ever to be produced by Sierra. I received the Kings Quest Collection as a gift for Christmas one year, and wound up playing the Laura Bow games more than the King's Quest series. :) First of all, the writing is fantastic. The characters all have their own unique personalities, along with their own motives for wanting the others dead. The plot moves in an arrangement of acts, like a play, and you have to see or do a certain number of things to progress the clock into each Act. It's a fabulous idea, really. I wish they had put more into the series. The sequel, The Dagger of Amon Ra, is just as good, too, but has better graphics. It is missing that old style Sierra feel, though.

Who killed who?

Warning: Spoilers
You play a character, Laura Bow. It's a basic point and click computer game created by Sierra, but it's difficult in ways that you have to keep guard - make sure you don't make any actions that would cost you your life - plus if you want to figure out clues to the murdering mystery then you have to look around the whole estate (which is a huge swampy island) and make sure you type in the right things; for instance, "Look at vase". At each Act (like the acts they would have in plays) another travesty awaits as you stay at the Colonel's mansion, Sir Henri Dijon - a grandfather of your friend, Lillian. It's a great murder mystery because you play a detective, where you can talk to many different characters, and view their attitudes towards the others staying in the mansion or anything at all. The best thing about this game is freedom - you can do whatever you want. After playing it a few times around, I experimented with different sentances, like "Kiss Rudy", to see what reaction would occur. There are so many secrets in this game - I wish I could just blurt them out right now. I would say I liked this game because it can end in MULTIPLE different ways - you could either commit suicide in multiple ways, you could make a wrong move (for instance, taking a shower will initiate the murderer to come in to kill you), and there's a score in the end that ranks you on how well you completed the game - since there are SO many things to figure out, so many clues. If you like murder mysteries like this game, I recommend the movie "Clue" with Tim Curry and Madeline Khan. What's also neat about this game is that it's all one big stage production, it's just a play - watch the beginning without pressing the Escape key and you'll see what I mean.
