The American Dream
The Treasure of Thomas Beale is an ingenious look into the world of small town America. Morgan Faust takes us through the lives of a myriad of different personalities and lifestyles, showing us, in her distinct fashion, how they are all connected through their perpetual search for what seems to be a complete work of fiction. The actual treasure lies steeped in mystery and has never been found, and although the task seems impossible, Faust subtly demonstrates that it is not actually the treasure that these people seek, but instead a dream or a glimmer of hope that they will be the ones who walk down that golden path to greatness that has always been identified with America. The film is a subtle and understated work of genius, looking into the soul of this country where individuals are perpetually in search of their dreams.
