great short
beasley-114 April 2003
This is definately one of the best shorts I have seen in a long time. The plot is fairly simple, a man trying to write the death of a character, but it is so well done both visually and as far as the script and acting go that it doesn't matter. I strongly recommend that everyone who gets a chance to see this do so. You won't be disappointed. I hope to see more from this director in the future.

A Masterpiece that stands next to Le Jetee...

If you love film, want to make a film, trying to make a film, watch this. You may find it under a Student Academy Awards DVD. It tells an engaging story in an unconventional manner. I saw it in a film class of mine, and I enjoyed it so much that I had to own it; So I asked Kazuo Ohno for a copy, and he gladly mailed me one with a promotional card. It's a VHS, but I hope to have on DVD some day.

I can't mention what goes on in the film, I can't find words to explain the so many things I enjoy about this film. It presents you with the simplest scenario, and it leads to so many things. A thought provoking film that will last for a very long time.

such a great short. kazuo ohno is talent to watch out for. the writing in this short is just superb - perhaps some of the best writing i have heard in a long long time. the visuals are extraordinary - its mindboggling to think this was done on a student budget. i can't wait to see what he does next

Unique, but Messy

I caught this film on a Columbia University Film Festival DVD. The director clearly has talent, mostly with slick-trick editing, but the film was just way too sprawling for me, just too all over the place. Felt like an hour long. The director couldn't resist throwing the kitchen sink in there, and it hurts the film. If he'd chopped out about 10 minutes, it could be brilliant, but he didn't so it isn't. There were 16 films on the DVD and this was my 4th favorite, behind Misdemeanor, Aqui Iba El Himno & La Milpa, which were all superior films. I suspect this filmmaker will become a unique voice but needs to know when to keep something, and when to cut it. That said, I wish him/her good luck.
