On Sunday ABC premiered its new philanthropic reality series Secret Millionaire. A conceptual cousin to Undercover Boss, each episode features a member of the super-rich going undercover to scout out charities for possible televised donations. Needless to say, I have mixed feelings about the show, which formerly aired on Fox in 2008. While it’s admirable that ABC is giving deserving non-profit organizations much-needed publicity that they wouldn’t receive otherwise, the narrative impulse of the series—based largely around rich folks encountering the less fortunate—reveals much about how lacking our national dialogue on poverty remains.

Solid showings from veteran Everybody Loves Raymond and freshman CSI: Miami led CBS to a nightly victory Monday. According to early Nielsen estimates, the eye network averaged 14.8 million viewers and a 5.2 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 with Raymond (19.0 million, 6.2/16) ranking as the top program for the night in both categories. NBC (11.7 million, 4.8/12) was second in total viewers and adults 18-49 on the strength of two hours of Fear Factor (12.7 million, 5.3/14), which led the demo pack from 8-10 p.m. ABC averaged 9.7 million viewers and a 3.2/8 in 18-49 with a blooper special and back-to-back episodes of The Practice. Fox settled for 7.0 million, 3.1/8 with Boston Public (7.9 million, 3.3/9) and Mr. Personality (6.1 million, 3.0/7).
Fox's Mr. Personality lost some of its Nielsen charm during its second outing Monday and its first without an assist from American Idol. CBS won Monday night by a wide margin (15.2 million viewers, 5.3 rating/14 share in adults 18-49) on the strength of Everybody Loves Raymond and CSI: Miami. NBC took the first hour of primetime with Fear Factor and saw respectable numbers from the dramas Third Watch and Crossing Jordan, but ABC had no bounce from 9-11 p.m. with the network premiere of the 2001 feature Charlie's Angels. CBS' 9 p.m. tentpole Raymond was the most-watched program of the night, averaging 17.9 million viewers and a 5.9/15 in adults 18-49, according to Nielsen Media Research. CSI: Miami was right behind with 17.2 million viewers and a 6.3/16 in adults 18-49.

John Grisham helped rescue CBS' flagging Sunday movie franchise last week, while the American Idol-boosted Fox captured the key 18-49 demographic for a third straight week as the May sweep got under way. A Painted House -- a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation based on Grisham's best seller -- gave CBS its most-watched Sunday movie in more than three years, with 18.3 million viewers, according to figures from Nielsen Media Research. Its 4.0 rating/10 share in 18-49 was the best demo outing for the franchise since December's The Christmas Shoes. But the week ending April 27 pretty much belonged to Fox, which won four nights in 18-49 thanks in part to a special Monday hour of Idol that led in to the debut of Mr. Personality, a reality dating show hosted by Monica Lewinsky. Personality retained 92% of Idol's demo audience, and both shows ended up dominating the night. Overall, Fox won 18-49 with a 4.6/13, followed by NBC (4.3/12), CBS (3.4/10) and ABC (3.1/9). CBS dominated in total viewers (12.7 million), followed by NBC (11 million), Fox (10.3 million) and ABC (8.5 million).

Fox was in the pink Monday with a special 8 p.m. edition of American Idol and a strong debut at 9 p.m. of its latest matchmaking reality series, the Monica Lewinsky-hosted Mr. Personality. Fox won the night by a wide margin in the adults 18-49 demographic with an average 6.0 rating/15 share, according to Nielsen Media Research. Fox also prevailed in total viewers (13.2 million), but CBS was a close No. 2 in that measure (12.8 million), even with its regular Monday comedy block in reruns. The WB also had a big night with the heavily promoted 150th episode of 7th Heaven (8.3 million viewers), which even beat Idol in the teen (5.4/17) and female teen (8.1/23) demos.

Monica Lewinsky will host Fox's latest reality series, Mr. Personality, the network said Wednesday. Lewinsky, whose dalliances with Bill Clinton imperiled his presidency, appeared in the 2002 HBO documentary Monica in Black and White. For the past several years, she has worked in New York as a handbag and accessory designer. Produced by Nash Entertainment in association with the G Group, Mr. Personality centers on a young woman courted by several disguised male suitors. The female contestant will be forced to choose among the potential mates based on personality traits rather than physical appearance. The series premieres at 9 p.m. April 21. "Since Fox is the network that has had the greatest success with this genre, I was very excited when they approached me to host the show," Lewinsky said in a statement. "It sounds like good fun."...
