Simple Love Story
leekandham9 July 2003
Stolen Love is a simple love story that has been gorgeously told. Rick (Raymond Lam) is a young budding architect, who whilst gazing at a poster of a writer, Angela Lok (Rain Li), is hit by a car. Although he survives the crash almost unscathed, fuzzy flashbacks of Angela keep appearing in his head, and he soon discovers that he has lost all ability to produce inspirational drawings. Then, one day, Angela appears at his office building protesting against the demolition of her apartment block, Rick reacquires his inspiration for that brief moment. Discovering she is the cause of his inspiration, he decides to move into her apartment block, where they rediscover they shared a love forgotten.

Although the movie is classified as a romantic comedy, it's more the romantic than the comedy that makes this film flow. The onscreen chemistry was there between the leads, indeed, having never personally seen these actors on screen before, I was deeply impressed by the performances of Raymond Lam, and especially Rain Li. There were definitely some touching moments in the script made it memorable. As for the comedy, it was provided by the obligatory supporting roles from formula books, but to be honest they weren't a very big part of it.

Direction wasn't special, although there were some innovative and interesting camera shots that add flavour to the film. Otherwise, there isn't much else to say about this film. It flows well and feels like a nice stroll in the park.

I do have to recommend this film, but it's not for anything outstanding - it's simply because it is just well made and had just a bit more than your average RomCom. One to hire out.
