Can Lightning Strike Twice in the Same Place
boblipton28 February 2011
With the indisputable success of Harold Lloyd's short subjects and his expansion to three reels and eventually features, Hal Roach decided to try out his brother Gaylord in the one-reelers. Unfortunately, while a competent actor, Gaylord was not the comic his brother was -- perhaps he was unwilling to take charge and insist on the scripts he needed.

So he never approached his brother's success. Still, by this time, Roach's company had expanded sufficiently that they were quite capable of turning out a decent comedy without a great comedian, and that's what this bit about a trip on the Red Line, with the maniacally blank George Rowe at the wheel, is.
