Tries hard for laughs, too hard
Clearly the work of Jonathan Morgan, with its over-emphasis on cross-talk and slapstick humor by a hero and his sidekick, this big-deal yet chintzy looking Wicked release would probably have benefited had Morgan cast himself as the sidekick instead of employing Randy Spears.
Spears tends to overact in both serious and comedy roles, in the "veins popping out of his forehead" school of mock-intensity. Here he is truly awful as Theseus, Hercules' ever-whiny sidekick who accompanies him on his 12 labors mandated to get him back in the good graces of the Greek gods.
Evan Stone plays Hercules, well-cast and underplaying compared to Spears. Star of the film is Julia Ann as the goddess Hera, a bit incongnito in a dark wig. She is in charge of giving the movie many of its comical anachronisms, smoking a cigarette and tough talking like a cast member of "Guys and Dolls".
The film, shot crudely on video (with numerous night scenes showing up as way too dark to watch, especially in a porn context), drags along rather dully, given Morgan's propensity for indulging the comic routines over the sex scenes. He sort of admits this (unwittingly) in the feature-length BTS included on Disk Two of this deluxe Wicked Pictures package.
Of the many femmes in the cast, I liked Lezley Zen the best, featured like many other players in multiple roles. Wicked contract girls Sydnee Steele and Stephanie Swift have their moments but the overstuffed production lacks focus. Morgan cannot resist some rather poorly shot scenes in Hell, presided over by Joel Lawrence as Hades, including a very stupid TV game show (sort of aimed at "Jeopardy") taking place in Hell with Stone and Julia as contestants.
All told it doesn't rank among Wicked's or Morgan's best work.
