As the terrible Black Plague devastates Spain, at the stroke of midnight, the desperate young lovers, Youth and Love try to evade Death's cold grip, accompanied by Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre visual symphony. In this archetypal clash between the perpetual life-giving Light and the misanthropic evil forces of darkness, the sinister servant of demise plays an eerie and mournful tune on his violin, overcoming Love little by little before a despairing Youth. Is all hope lost?
