Shyam, a middle-class man, falls in love with a millionaire's daughter and marries her. However, as their relationship starts deteriorating, Shyam finds solace in the company of Radha.

Shyam an ambitious young man is in Mauritius to fulfill his dreams. He meets Rukmini, a millionaire's daughter. They fall in love and get married despite strong opposition from Rukmani's stepmother and brother. Shyam would love to be a father, but Rukmani undergoes an operation to stop any pregnancy, as she is least interested in becoming a mother. This widens the gap between the couple. Rukmini even suspects Shyam of having an illicit relationship with Radha, a librarian. Rukmini's stepmother and uncle, who have an eye on Rukmini's wealth, further fuel the misunderstanding to the point of breaking their marriage.—gavin@sunny_deol2009@yahoo.com

Shyam, a working-class Indian living in Mauritius, tries to obtain money to buy a freighter and begins a romance with Ruku, the wealthy and snobish daughter of the bank president who gives him a loan, and offers his blessing of courting Ruku in marriage. But Shyam sees little amusement in Ruku's stereotyping of other middle and lower class people, and seeks solace by courting Radha, the poor daughter of his poverty-stricken accountant Gobal.—Anonymous

Shyam is of Indian-origin based in Mauritius, where he is employed. He meets with attractive Rukmani, the only daughter of a wealthy Industrialist, and both fall in love. They get married, despite strong opposition from Rukmani's step-mother, Renu, and her brother, Sampatlal. Rukmani, although educated and of modern outlook, is prejudiced against untouchable Gopal and his daughter, Radha, who are very friendly with Shyam. Shyam would love to be a father, but Rukmani undergoes an operation to stop any pregnancy, and neglects to take care of herself, and as a result there are complications, and she is unable to have any children. This widens the gape between Shyam and Rukmani.
