The E.T. Reunion (2002)
*** (out of 4)
Steven Spielberg, Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore, Dee Wallace Stone, Robert MacNaughton, Peter Coyote and Kathleen Kennedy all sat down together at E.T.'s 20th Anniversary premiere and that result is shown in this 17-minute featurette. Fans of the movie should enjoy seeing all of the major players back together and sitting together. There are all sorts of stories told about the production of the movie but I think the most fascinating stuff deals with how all of the actors just saw E.T. as a real person and not a puppet. Each of them talk about how important this was in regards to their performances working and they mention how special his eyes were and how that helped sell that he was real. Spielberg talks about the budget being at around $10 million and how Universal was extremely nervous because they thought it was going to end up losing money. Another funny story deals with Spielberg talking about the death scene and us getting the reaction of the kid's in the picture. Fans of the film should be entertained by this featurette even if there's nothing spectacular. The stories told are nice and you really do see how special the movie is to those who were involved with it.
