Mostly of historical interest...
While "The Old Family Toothbrush" is a fairly well made cartoon for 1925, it's not something most folks today would enjoy watching. However, it's of great historical interest--both to the history of animation as well as to film historians. This is because despite its age, this film is in color--of at least a primitive sort of two-color process called "Naturecolor". In many ways, it looks like two-color Technicolor or two-color Kodachrome of the same era. Apparently it never caught on and all these processes were made obsolete in the mid-1930s when full-color (such as three-color Technicolor) same into use.
This cute little film is set on Noah's ark, but he's called 'Kid Noah' and spends much of his time fighting with the animals. A fight breaks out over the use of the toothbrush and Kid Noah tries to intervene. However, this results in the kangaroo challenging him to a boxing match where LOTS of cheating results.
The animation quality, for the time, was pretty good--a bit better looking than the Disney films just three years later (such as "Plane Crazy" and "Steamboat Willie"). But, the story itself isn't quite as good and apparently the film didn't make much of a mark, as no one has heard of Kid Noah today...other than a few weirdos like myself.
