Plot Summary

Jack Ainsley and Bob Hutchings, members of a Canadian regiment, go to the Boer War. They have been fast friends, helping each other out when in need. When their commissary is low, Bob and Jack, with other members of the regiment, go forging. They confiscate chickens from a Boer farmer, and Jack, being a little in the rear of his companions, is struck down by the farmer. When they return to the camp they miss him, especially his sweetheart Anne Harrington, a Red Cross nurse, and immediately set out to recover him. He is rescued and brought back to camp, where they enjoy a fine chicken dinner. Shortly after, the regiment is ordered back to Canada, and Bob and Jack separate. Jack marries Anne, and is made judge in his city. Bob has had hard luck and is down and out. While walking in the street one day, he notices a baker drop a loaf of bread. He picks it up and eats it with avidity. He is arrested and brought before Judge Ainsley, who recognizes his long-lost friend. Judge Ainsley pays for the loaf of bread, and before long he has Bob on his feet again. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis
