A doze of reality the current Chinese society really needs
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The Clumsy daughter-in-law.
This movie is a Chinese masterpiece of social criticism that the Chinese society really needs, not only back then, but also right now.
In the traditional Chinese culture, or more precisely, the rigid and strict traditional Confucian teaching, daughters-in-law are treated as servants, if not property of the husbands family. This movie criticizes this dross in the traditional culture, which is currently in resurgence in China due to the recent rapid Chinese economic boom, so what was criticized two decades ago still applies today in China.
