Fat Kirby

It was a good little show. When it aired I was invested, after a while better shows were on, so I watched those instead. It's a good show it just didn't keep me engaged for too long.

Cutest Anime I Have Ever Seen
fireflysky-9604114 September 2023
I am not nor have I ever been a fan of anime. I never found anime appealing and I could not get myself to appreciate the designs of the characters in most anime. However, I have to say that Kirby: Right Back At Ya (English Dub) is one of the only few anime's that I enjoy.

First, the story of the show surprisingly has continuity and I found it fun to follow the adventures of Kirby and his friends. The story can be slow in some episodes but it's usually the same plot, where one of the antagonists, Kind Dedede, continues to buy monsters in order to get rid of Kirby, and it is up to Kirby to save the day. I should note that I have played many Nintendo games since I was a child, but I never got into any of the Kirby games. I am aware that the show is not canon to the games but it sure makes me want to play a Kirby game.

Next, the characters are very cute and enjoyable to watch. Each character, ranging from Kirby to Tiff/Tuff, and King Dedede have multiple characteristics that make them likable. No character is unlikable nor makes me annoyed, even for the villains. Additionally, while the show progresses, we are introduced to more characters, but it is easy to get to know them all and appreciate the flushing of each character.

Finally, the animation is cute and colorful, however, the animation can be very choppy at times. For example, the show uses both 2D and 3D animations. But the transitions are incredibly off putting, where one shot a character is in 2D, but in the next the character is in 3D. The 3D elements look nice for action scenes, but for general scenes without action, it's very noticeable and hard to watch.

Overall, it is a very cute show with nice action, charming characters, and an interesting story. Even if you have never played a Kirby game or if you're not a fan of gaming in general, it is still easy to enjoy the show as it does not tie into the games. Heck, I believe that watching the show will get viewers to want to play a Kirby game.

I love Kirby
showboat26924 November 2007
Ever since I started playing the video games, I've gone completely obsessed with Kirby. Now every time a new game comes up I buy it. the shows are even better though. The only thing I don't like about "Kirby right back at ya" is that Kirby can't speak. I wish he were able to talk. If they were to make a totally new season I would want him to be able to talk. the characters are also cool I think Tiff is the most kindest one in the show. The episodes I have seen all amaze me. I was on the edge of my seat."Kirby right back at ya is my favorite TV show.I just wish the shows would come back on TV again. I missed a lot of episodes and I wish I could see all of them.

Decent show.

When I found out that Kirby one of Nintendo's video game characters was going to have his own show, I thought "This will probably be dumb". However, I saw the show recently, and I was actually impressed. This show is pretty excellent, and has great characters (like Kirby, and his nemesis King Dedede), and it's pretty colorful too art wise. So check it out, you might like it.

Very cute show
ericstevenson25 January 2019
It's been so long since I watched this show. It's amazing how nostalgic it is. This is an anime based on the Kirby games. I admit to never having played the games, but I've seen them played plenty of times. It's notable in having the new characters Escargoon, Tiff, and Tuff. I admit it is a bit disappointing how Kirby doesn't talk.

Tiff and Tuff are usually the active ones. To be fair, they are pretty enjoyable characters. I like how the animation style switches with Escargoon, Dedede, and Kirby. I've seen so many bad video game adaptations this really does come out as one of the best. I like the goofy designs of everybody. It's fairly faithful to the franchise and enjoyable. ***1/2

Love this show, and I love Kirby!

Most cartoons based on video games are bad, I'm so happy this Kirby show isn't one of them because Kirby is my favorite video game ever! This show captures the games well.

would be 7, except for tiff's dub VA
asaromason10 October 2021
The japanese version is bland as heck (sorry, 4kids censored this review) , the dub has more style... but it also has kerry williams as tiff. She sounds like someone's comically exaggerated lisa simpson impression, PARTICULARLY of lisa when the show got bad and she became nothing more than a sopboxing witch who called james rolfe sexist for boycotting ghostbusters 2016. In fact, the only reason you can tell apart season 11- lisa simpson and tiff (voicewise, but the yellow skin and aforementioned soapbox addiction ARE suspiciously similar) is because one keeps ranting about dedede! However, ted lewis as dedede and escargoon, Eric stuart as meta knight, and DAN GREEN as customer service (nightmare's salesguy for that "used monster dealership" (as i call it) that's where dedede keeps getting the minibosses), not to mention kirbo himself, are a gem, and the reason to keep watching despite tiff's assault on your eardrums and the usual 4kids idiocy) also, don't look tiff up on deviantart, unless you're actually into/already used to body inflation and bad ocs. (wow. Suprised they didn't catch that one)

English Dub VS. Japanese Dub
Demonic_Spirit_Vaati27 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
When it comes to Kirby, any "True Anime Fan" will tell you that the Japanese version of Kirby is the inferior version. Some of the voice casts cannot match or sync lip flap and most of season one has bad audio quality. The English version has better audio quality and has more better voice casts, ones that can match and sync lip flap. The English Dub also follows the Original creator Masahiro Sakurai's wish and primary rule of Kirby not aloud to speak, where as the Japanese version broke his rule and his desire by making him say attack phrases. That automatically makes it inferior to the English Dub because they broke the rule of his character.

Most of the English voice casts are also more fitting to the characters personalities. Meta Knight has a Zorro-like accent to compliment his Zorro-like personality and King DeDeDe's southern accent and mispronunciation of words brings out his character more. Meta Knight's voice in the Japanese version however sounds basic and normal with no relation to his actual personality and King DeDeDe, who apparently suffered severe brain trauma as a kid, speaks perfectly fine but has a verbal tic, ending most sentences with "ZOI".

The plot was extremely close to the Original, not much of the scripts was changed, and some of the scripts were rewritten but still relating in a way to the Original script and particular scene. Both versions use puns, not much was cut out in the English Dub, and the culture remained in tact. Makiko Ohmoto still got to voice Kirby, which was an awesome thing to retain from the Original version as she is the only one who is perfect for the voice of Kirby.

English Version>Japanese Version

I hate this show and I HATE KIRBY!!!
Grey_Waddle_Doo29 March 2009
Back in the day, I remembered seeing dumb Nintendo Power comics that had the same artwork as this show... and then word came up that this show was a coming to a television near me! I was not estatic, but curious... I was curious about how bad this show was gonna suck. My friends all said that this show had no real meanings and was too silly for straight people like me to enjoy (i'm actually gay), so I decided to watch the show with low expectations.

WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!! First off, I hate the new characters. Tiff and Tuff are so dumb and I hate how so many fanboys drool over Tiff, it's sad. I also hate how they made Chef Kalasaki (or whatever his nonstraight name was) a good guy who owned a restaurant. Bad move, 4Kids TV! Escargoon is nothing but a loser adviser to the King Dedede (who sucks big time in this show) and I hate the face of that one company that keeps supplying Dedede with those awful weapons to destroy Kirby. So stupid, I hate this show.

I then began to hate Kirby even more since it was obvious Nintendo was just aching to get Kirby some popularity. Kirby'll never beat Mario in the fight for coolness, and Kirby will always be nothing but a tiny little cream puff of gayness. NUF SAID!!!

Cute

That's what it's about- adventures and Kirby. Kirby's cute, illiterate, and dosen't talk much- and usually end up in peril, then sweeps back off and sucks up his foes. That's what people turn in for- just for Kirby. His adventures, and the cuteness of the show.

Successful Show
independencereno-8010610 March 2019
This show was pretty successful I hope there is another tv series to be released on Netflix with the same cast and new characters introduced and added cast members in English some characters returning from some episodes would have to be recasted although Ted Lewis will reprise his roles as King Dedede and Escargoon from this show and Chef Kawasaki from Kirby 3D (2009).

Im so sad that CatDog still airs, Bring it Back
tommypezmaster6 June 2007
Back in the good old days of Nick, this was my favorite show, alone with Rocko's Modern Life, Hamtaro, and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Why ever people hate this show is beyond me.

It seems that a lot of people hate anime because they are simply being cartoons. That's really why its great. The show is random, but not to random so it stays interesting.

The shows characters are are the strongest I have seen from any cartoon. I can't think of any weak characters. Unlike most cartoons made within the past two years, Kirby's characters are not one-dimensional and flat. The viewer gets to see many sides of Tiff or Tuff or any major character.

The show is just genius. I just wish the show could have been more popular. Unlike most animation now, this show can be enjoyed by the whole family. It makes a good kids show, yet it also has a strong appeal to a more mature audience. Truly one of 4kids's classics and one of their best cartoons.

One of the best shows on Fox Box!
SonicStuart28 May 2004
Kirby: Right Back At Ya is a really great show because Kirby is my second favorite video-game character next to Sonic the Hedgehog! This show was dubbed by 4 Kids Entertainment (the same entertainment company that dubbed Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh) and the show is about a hero from a different planet named Kirby who had a ship that crashed in Dream Land a place ruled by King Dedede along with his assistant, Escargoon. King Dedede is a pretty tricky king who keeps ordering monsters from this one company called Nightmare Enterprises which is headed by The Cloaked Nightmare who is the real villain of this show. Kirby fights the monsters out of Dream Land to protect Dream Land and Cappy Town along with Tiff and Tuff. Kirby is a cute and very powerful little guy that can suck a certain thing up and become something else. For example, if Kirby sucked up fire he would become Fire Kirby or if he sucked up ice he would become Ice Kirby and well you get the idea! I glad that Fox Box now has two of the best video-game characters on their network! Kirby Right Back At Ya and Sonic X!

User Rating: 10/10

BOTTOM LINE: THE BEST SHOW ON FOX BOX NEXT TO SONIC X!

This Tv Series is the Dark Souls of our time.
gradywaple17 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show is amazing for many reasons. It remains faithful to the game series, while also bringing something new to the table. It dealt with many serious topics such as death, grief, and climate change. And the theme song, who could forget it? It is amazing to another level. Mwah. Thank you Sakurai fir this.

Amazing show!
victinionofficial2 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This show may not have ran for that long, but it certainly had some amazing and heartbreaking scenes. In D'Preciation Day ( episode 93 ), Tiff and Tuff help Kirby fake his death. King Dedede and Escargoon are heartbroken by this. King Dedede was hurt the most, but soon, they figured out Kirby wasn't dead. Escargoon was mad, but King Dedede was very happy to see Kirby alive and well.

This show is really, really, really, REALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Who would not like this show? I wish this show still made new episodes. I wonder if.......... they will make new episodes of this or.......... another movie? It would be so awesome if this came on a whole lot more often. I hope this show never gets canceled.

BROOOOOO
Froggo-2538929 November 2022
THIS IS ADORABLE. (I have it on YouTube thanks to a guy who went through and translated it. Props to him.) I'm sure that the english dub holds a lot of fond memories for older people, but I personally prefer sub over dub any day.

Man, considering that this came out when Kirby didn't really have a concrete story, it's pretty good. The "Demon Beasts" are pretty funny and creative, and I'm 99.9% sure that this is the only show that can get me attached to a snowman. Dedede and his assistant Escargoon are a riot, and having an entire town made of Cappies (the mushroom dudes that get depressed if you take away their hats) is GENIUS. Fumu and Bun are actually pretty cute, and Meta Knight is everything I want and more. Customer Service (yes, that's his actual name,) is pretty funny too.

This show tries it's hardest to combine 3D and 2D at at time when 3D was kinda hard to do, and it doesn't look to bad...usually. There are some kinda bad 3D parts (like when they try to use assets that are too big and look kind of like trash) but it's still pretty good.

All in all a well rounded show, and you should go find it on YouTube and watch it.

A good translation of the games.
ilovestarwars18 November 2004
I'd never liked Kirby on videogames(except of Kirby: The Crystal Shards, for N64), but I like the cartoon. The cartoon is dubbed by a famous company, 4 Kids(Made Pokemon, Ultimate Muscle, Sonic X and many others). In the cartoon Kirby is a Star Knight. His starship fell in Dreamland, a land that is controlled by the evil King Dedede and his loyal servant Escargoon. Dedede always buy monsters for trying to defeat Kirby but he never wins wins, because Kirby can swallow his opponent and copy it's abilities. Kirby: Right Back at Ya is a cool cartoon of Jetix(In Brazil, I know that Kirby appears in the Fox Box in USA).

Very cute anime and is filled with heart, silliness, charm, good animation, comedy and perfection
lewisdabson16 August 2023
Kirby is a game francise I mostly really enjoyed with the new forgotten Island and return to dreamland. I enjoyed most of kirby titles and are fun games to play even they are in the easy side. Tho saying that the games end game contents make up for that but even then its fun easy because of its unique power ups, tight controls, cute visuals and charming characters etc. It's a nice laid back gaming francise and sometimes we need those type of games to relax to instead of always been super hard etc. Not there's anything wrong with hard games. This anime tho I tried to get into after liking the games and much like the games I love it. The character are lovable, goofy, charming, silly, unique and fun. Kirby is adorable and badass at the same time, you can't help but love his cheerful personallity. The other characters are fun to and no problems with any of them. Meta knight is a badass, king dede is funny and endearing etc. The japanase version of the show is the way to go and is the one I recommend watching but the English is shocking good which says a lot because this is 4kids who have done not so good dubs in the past but despite some cuts and some corny jokes. It has good performances from the characters, the goofy comedy works for it's world and tone, the music isn't bad, the storys are the same and the writing is pretty solid. It has 100 episodes in total so there is a lot of content to work with. I love this anime and I love kirby if you like both then watch it but it's neither I would still give it look if you are interested in something laid back and extremely cute.

He's more than you think, he's maximum pink
donmccullen-17 December 2002
Based on the Nintendo video game this show takes place on a far away planet called Popstar. Popstar is constantly bombarded by monsters that are ordered by Popstar's ruler King Dedede (pronounced De-De-De).

The monsters are part of an evil corporation called Night Mare Enterprises headed by a figure called NME who is determined to enslave the universe. Popstar's only hope is a Star Warrior who goes by the name of Kirby.

Kirby does come to Popstar but at the wrong time. Kirby is a baby and does not have the fighting experience. To make matter worse Dedede is not found of Kirby and is determined to take out Kirby for good with NME's help. Followers of the Kirby games know that Dedede is the main villian.

However a girl named Tiff who is very strong willed does her best to protect Kirby. She is helped by her brother Tuff (most of the time), and by Meta Knight who is a Star Warrior himself and one of few warriors left after losing to Night Mare Enterprises. Together they help Kirby in perfecting his skills and to be the light of hope to defeat NME.

Kirby for the most part is played of laughs since this show is produced by Nintendo and 4Kids (who also produce Pokemon), but it still good fun. If your fan of the Kirby video game series you might enjoy this fun cartoon show.
