Veterans Nambiar and Sukumari are parents of Jayabharathi. She is a nubile pretty young girl with high ambitions . They lead a middle class life happily . Despite warnings from her parents , aware of her beauty and fanbase , she keeps flirting and gliding from man to man . She herself admits that she cannot help it . Due to her dancing profession she meets all kinds of men as fans . Her parents get her married to an older man Soman who is kind and caring . He had seen her in one dance program and fallen for her. She agrees to this marriage due to pressure and also because her own lover says he is not yet ready for marriage. Both carry on their affairs even after her marriage calling it true love . Sadly she does not find her husband enticing and keeps drifting again and again . She has no dearth of lovers thanx to her youth and beauty . She continues her affairs even when she has a daughter. One day he sees her with her own make up man . Shocked and enraged he goes to complain to her parents. Even when they scold her , Without any remorse , she leaves him taking her daughter with her. Sad and frustrated he goes away to his lonely life. Most of her men are jobless and depend upon her for money .

Her daughter grows up into a pretty young girl aware of her mother's men friends . Meanwhile Jayabharati keeps moving from lover to lover. Each one leaves her after a point saying that she is growing old and ageing now . She finds a very chirpy young man Pratap Pothen who claims to love her. Her innocent daughter too falls prey to his charms and starts meeting him silently behind her mother's back. He is found dead one day The case comes to court . Both mother and daughter claim to have killed him. Finally the court rules out both are innocent and killed him in self defence when he tries to molest the underage daughter . In the end , Jayabharati realises the value of stability of relationships . She commits suicide in her husband's arms asking his forgiveness . Jayabharati seems to be a bold actress of her times. PP is likeable in his small role as a charming villain . Over all a fine eye opening movie depicting the futility of drifting relations .
