Very true to the biblical account.

A portrayal of the Book of Esther from the Old Testament, this film is very true to the biblical account. Olivia Hussey is, in my view, a very underrated actress. She is very believable as Esther.

Harris Yulin as the sly, underhanded, self-serving Haman gave a brilliant portrayal of his role.

Tony Musante who played King Xerxes almost seemed to be out of his league. His Xerxes was almost childish, self-indulgent, and very naive. But then again, maybe that was a very true-to-life portrayal of the ancient Persian king.

The annual Jewish festival of Purim is celebrated in memory of Queen Esther, the brave and beautiful Jewish orphan girl who rescued her people. This film provides insight into the courage of this girl and her faith in God that is worthy of being remembered for all time. It is a shame that the movie is not available for purchase in VHS or DVD.
