I felt kind of sad after having watched this.

*SPOILERS* ahead, well sort of:)

It's about a middle-aged man with no friends or relatives. He only has any real social contact with people over the telephone, mostly for his job, and vaguely with people on the internet, and only to play some games. One day on the train home after work his cellphone is stolen by a woman. She later calls him at his home and tells him about her insecurities and about her being crazy. No one will help her; but he says he will. What follows is a night in which the woman has some encounters that the man (Nico) gets to hear over the phone and discuss with her somewhat. Eventually she ends up at his apartment. It's very awkward and they don't really know what to say. Nico asks her to leave. They resolve to only have further contact on the phone.

Everyone is portrayed as being essentially alone, with the two main characters being a little extreme examples. The 'eenzaam' from the title of course means 'lonely'. I was tired when I saw this and I realize I'm not making a very wonderful analysis here, but all I can say is even if people are really as alone as they are made out to be in this movie, I dearly hope they are not as lonely as this movie's people. Maybe I just don't like being confronted with this issue. I spend the rest of the night feeling sorry for Nico, poor guy. He doesn't even exist and it at least is a compliment for this movie that it touches me to that extent, but I wouldn't watch it again. Too sad. Also it's kind of slow and grey, not too much action, even emotionally. Just the constant feeling of not being able to connect or to belong. On a last note I did really like the actor who plays Nico, who's name I can't remember unfortunately.
