Not among Rick Sebak's best, but still quite enjoyable.
Rick Sebak has made quite a few quirky little documentaries for the PBS affiliate in Pittsburgh. The films are rather slight but high on nostalgia and have been so popular that they've been shown on PBS all across the country. He's produced films on such topics as old-time amusement parks, strange and quirky buildings, farmer's markets, cemeteries, hot dogs and ice cream! These topics, while not as deep as you'd find in many documentaries, are sure fun and there's is something about the narration, interviews and film that work out well together.
Of all of his films, I think "Shore Things" is among my least favorite--it's just a little too mundane. However, I still recommend it and enjoyed it. And, it showed a lot of beaches where I have enjoyed a lot of time. But my problem is that I've seen these places and there really isn't anything that special about seeing Ocean City (either of them), the Outer Banks, Daytona and most of the other beaches in the film. The only one that came as more of a surprised and I learned quite a bit about was Venice Beach in California. So this is a case of familiarity breeding, perhaps, a bit of contempt. I assume that if you live away from the beach, then this might mean a bit more for you to watch.
