Egbert is deprived of his wardrobe when creditors clean him out. He resorts to the clothes-line and steals a policeman's uniform of which little remains. He is jailed for impersonating an officer and in the station an altercation follows between him and his closest rival for the hand of Mary. The situation is fully explained and Egbert is freed while J. Campbell Pancake languishes behind the bars.
