The frame at 1:07:48, in the shot where Manickam (Rajinikanth) gives a surprised reaction to his boss (Visu), was used as a reference in the 2018 film 'Kaala', also starring Rajinikanth. His look and facial expression was re-created by hand-drawn animation for the flashback sequence, where Kaala (Rajinikanth) falls in love at first sight of Zareena (Huma Qureshi).
The song "Vechukkava" was shot on a set resembling a five-star hotel with 200 television sets.
The film released on Diwali festival. Vaidehi Kaathirundaal (1984) and Tamil dubbed version of My Dear Kuttichaathan (1984) also released along with this film on the same day.
The scene where Gangadharan (Visu) asks Manickam (Rajinikanth), if he has heard about a bus conductor who became a superstar through hard work, is a reference to Rajinikanth's early life as a bus conductor before he became an actor.
The song "Unnaithane" was intended to be shot at Kerala, but filming became impossible due to heavy rain in Kerala. Instead, it was shot at Muttukaadu, since its atmosphere resembles that of Kerala.
