Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ed Harris in Radio (2003)

Goofs

Radio

Edit

Continuity

When Coach Jones, Radio, and Coach Honeycutt eat burgers in the office, Coach Jones opens his burger box and eats the burger. After Coach Honeycutt gives Radio his drink, Jones's burger box is closed. He opens it, with a fresh burger inside, and eats it.
When Coach Jones arrives at the jail to pick up Radio, Radio turns and says "There's Coach!" and gestures at coach with his right hand, which is holding a sandwich. In the next shot, the sandwich is in Radio's lap in his left hand.
When Mrs. Kennedy and Coach Jones are having tea, Mrs Kennedy turns off the burner, moves the teapot to another spot on the stove, then has tea with Coach Jones. He puts sugar in the cup, but never ads water.
When Coach Jones calls nine players to run all the way to the line until he says to quit, a shot from behind shows them walking to the field to start their runs, and passing the coach. In the next shot, they haven't passed the coach yet.
When Coach Jones and Johnny talk about telling Radio to go into the girls locker room, the coach's shirt collar is sticking out. In the next shot, it's inside his jacket.

Factual errors

During the last game of the season, the referee flags Coach Jones, then Radio, after throwing a flag for Pass Interference. Referees carry only 1 yellow flag, so he would've tossed his cap in the air for Radio's infraction.
The school buses have "Anderson County Schools" on the side. Public school buses in South Carolina were (and still are) owned and operated by the state, and have "South Carolina Public Schools" on the side.
When Radio opens the turquoise radio that was given to him by coach Jones you can see that the cord stays with the back housing and is no longer connected to the radio chassis yet we are led to believe that as Radio is moving the tuner and we hear the sounds of stations changing that there is power to the chassis. The vacuum tubes would be glowing as well.
Radio is watching a basketball game featuring the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers are wearing their red road uniforms. However, this movie takes place in 1976 and the 76ers road uniforms of the time were royal blue and not red.
At the very beginning when Radio is listening, the announcer refers to "President Carter", but the election isn't for months (after the season another announcer correctly says 'President Elect Jimmy Carter').

Revealing mistakes

When Radio is taking the radio apart that assistant coach Honeycutt gave him, it's obvious the radio has no power. That type of radio has a two-prong power connection on the circuit board that plugs into the molded plug in the housing when it's assembled. When opened, that power connection is unplugged like pulling the plug from a wall power socket. You can see the two power prongs on the circuit board when they show it from the rear.

Anachronisms

In the barbershop, when the coach resigns, one shot shows a man wearing a John Deere trucker hat. The deer on the hat is jumping upward, which means it was produced in 2000 or later. In 1976, the deer jumped downward.
In one scene featuring Coach Jones in his office, a Coke bottle behind him commemorates Paul 'Bear' Bryant as the college football coach with the most wins. That bottle was made after Bryant's retirement in 1982.
Coach wears Ray-Ban sunglasses, with the logo painted on the lens. Ray-Ban started putting logos on lenses in the late 1980s.
Throughout the movie, the footballs have a gold "Spalding" logo. Gold logos first appeared in the early 1990s, when Wilson put a gold imprint on its NFL balls.
Coach Jones drives a 1979 Ford F-150 Custom pickup, in 1976.

Crew or equipment visible

When Radio looks into the ornaments, a camera is reflected in the close-up.

Errors in geography

Spanish moss can be seen hidden from the trees. This type of moss only occurs in the lower state (where filmed) not in the Anderson, SC area.

Character error

When "Radio" finally gets to ride on the school bus, the bus begins to move before he sits down. It is against the law for the bus to be in motion when anyone is in front of the "yellow line".
