At least not when I was in college -- and I went to a fraternity school! THE COLLEGIANS was a series of short situation comedies that Universal produced from 1926 through 1929, and Carl Laemmle Jr. was credited as producer and frequently as writer from the beginning, at the tender age of 18. Clearly a brilliant man with great taste in fathers, he turned out some wonderful movies but the Depression put an end to his career.
He also got some real talent to do the heavy lifting, including, here, director Wesley Ruggles. In this series, no one ever bothers with classes. Instead they spend their time on sports -- in this one, shell racing -- for the men and husband hunting for the women. And occasionally the boys break training and go off to the 'Hula Hula Hut', whence they must be rescued before they get thrown off the team, but where they get to sit across from Walter Brennan, so young he has hair.
There's some nice camera work from the always dependable Ben Kline. All in all, a harmless short subject.
