An Unknown Masterpiece

I could never have believed such a movie existed in Bengali. Another pure work of art, this movie too takes a very close look at the middle class life in small towns and emanates a strong aura of dark satire. Some of the shots are unbelievably long and expertly shot, some are too surreal to grasp, some are pure genius (like the elaborate shot of a drunk mimicry artist at the peak of his trade) and some are hauntingly unfathomable. Some of the creativity involve in the sets is just awesome and really shows how some directors had internalized world cinema, but just never had the reach. The movie has a distinct Lynchian quality and somehow treats time as a plaything, and combines humor with the philosophies beautifully. The actors are great, with the characters having a distinct Tagore touch. The director really makes a statement with his great treatment of color, space and emotions, all three combine to give almost a spiritual experience. Great movie.
