Strange things in your house
paudieconnolly26 May 2021
A strange one here some good more strange . After the Canadian national anthem by Joanie Wilson . Gorilla Monsoon informs us Shawn Michaels can't wrestle so there taking the belt off him. Fair enough so a match or a tournament no there just going to put the title on.....? That might be the most surprising part. A first look at the strange one Golddust keeps the strange going. A weird match between king Mabel and Yokozuna WWE championship on the line in a match that felt like it just ran out of time.

Best Remembered For Goldust's In-Ring Debut
jeremycrimsonfox1 August 2020
WWF In Your House 4 (a.k.a. In Your House 4: Great White North), is a WWF/WWE PPV that took place on October 22, 1995 at the Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg,Manitoba, Canada. However, while it does have some good things, it also falls flat.

At the start, we are treated to Toni Wilson singing the Canadian National Anthem, which she does beatifully, following with a message from Gorilla Monsoon saying Shawn Michaels is not cleared to be in the ring due to being attacked by Marines outside a bar, and made the controversial decision that he must forfeit the Intercontinental Title to Dean Douglas (even though WWE rules make it clear if a champion is unable to defend his title, he must forfeit the belt).

Starting with a singles match between Fatu and Hunter Hearst Helmsley, the card is a mixed bag. Basically, this is the action you'd expect from WWE pre-Attitude Era, with the notable match being the return of Dustin Rhodes, as he adopts the Goldust persona against Marty Jennatty. Sadly, most of the matches are weak. with King Mabel Vs. Yokozuna being bad (ending in a double countout due to the two being outside the ring beating each other up) and even the main event between Diesel and British Bulldog for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship (which ends in a disqualification thanks to Bret Hart, and this match was even hated by Vince McMahon himself) makes this a so-so PPV.

Recap
Spawn Devil1 July 2002
1. Hunter Hearst Helmsley earned a pinfall victory over Fatu.

2. The Smoking Gunns (Bart/Billy Gunn) retained the World Tag Team Championship, defeating The 1-2-3 Kid & Razor Ramon. Billy pinned the Kid for the win.

3. Goldust defeated Marty Jannetty via pinfall.

4. Yokozuna and Mabel's match resulted in a double-countout.

5. Shawn Michaels forfeited his Intercontinental Championship, as WWF President Gorilla Monsoon refused to allow him to compete after a recent concussion. The title was handed over to his arranged opponent, Dean Douglas. Dean Douglas would then go on to lose the title that same night to Razor Ramon. Ramon pinned Douglas to capture the Intercontinental Title, regardless of the fact that the champ's feet were in the ropes; the referee didn't restart the match, however.

6. "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith defeated Diesel via disqualification. Bret Hart, provoked by a cheapshot from Diesel outside the ring, interfered in the match, allowing Diesel to retain his World Championship.

Overall Mark: C+

Every bit as bad as remembered.
b_kite25 April 2022
The World Wrestling Federation (WWF) is at Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in front of a crowd of 10,339 on October 22, 1995.

Match 1: Hunter Hearst Helmsley defeated Fatu - Singles match (8:06) - An alright opener it's fun to see a very young Triple H with his "Connecticut Blueblood" gimmick. Both men get a good deal of offense. Henry Godwin shows up with a bucket of slop and chases Helmsley out of the arena. **1/2 out of 5

Match 2: The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart) (c) defeated the 1-2-3 Kid and Razor Ramon - Tag team match for the WWF Tag Team Championship (12:46) - This match usually gets credit for being the best on the card and it's a pretty good showcase of a young X-pac (here as 1-2-3 Kid) and Billy Gunn in his Smoking Gunn days. The finish is unique and clever too. *** out of 5

Match 3: Goldust defeated Marty Jannetty - Singles match (11:15) - The debut of Goldust one of the most polarizing and interesting characters the WWE ever invented. Sadly, it's to Marty Jannetty who was just returning for a second time to the company. For a debut of a new character Jannetty surprisingly gets a lot of offense in a match that goes way to long. *1/2 out of 5

Match 4: King Mabel (with Sir Mo) vs. Yokozuna (with Mr. Fuji and Jim Cornette) ended in a double count out - Singles match (5:12) - Jim Ross opens the match by saying "where probably not going to see many fishermen's carry's or waste locks". This is the kind of big man showcase you know Vince was creaming his pants for. Let's just say if you thought it looked bad on paper it's worse after watching it. 1/2* out of 5

Match 5: Razor Ramon defeated Dean Douglas (c) - Singles match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship (11:01) - Shawn Michaels was forced to relinquish the Intercontinental title after getting his butt kicked by a marine the day prior. For some reason it's automatically given to Douglas who then must face and lose to Razor Ramon in his second showing of the night in a match he barely gets any offense in. Throw in the world's stupidest ending and I can see why it annoyed Douglas, who was towards the end of his ill-fated second stint with the company. I'd loved to have seen Douglas return a couple of years later with his "Franchise" gimmick in the Attitude era even though he and Vince hated each other. * out of 5

Match 6: The British Bulldog defeated Diesel (c) by disqualification - Singles match for the WWF Championship (18:14) - The famously bad main event that was so horrible it set Vince off at ringside. Most of the match is just boring as Nash lays in the ring while Davey works his knees. Nobody would ever mistake Nash for a technical wrestler, but this was bad even for him. * out of 5

This usually makes peoples top ten worst WWF PPVs list as it is just a crap show it starts out with two good matches and just nose dives from there. It's everything wrong with WWF in 1995 right in your face and the reason why Vince would drastically lose ground to WCW the following two years.

The Great White North
bh_tafe311 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Well the Intercontinental Championship changed hands twice, Goldust debuted on PPV and In Your House returned to form with this satisfying fourth installment.

The night began with a rich snob Hunter Hearst Helmsely continuing his winning streak against Fatu. This was billed as Helmsley's biggest challenge to date and so it proved. A passable opener, won by Helmsley with the pedigree.

Next up we saw the Smoking Gunns (Bart and Billy) defending the tag belts against 1-2-3 Kid and Razor Ramon. This was an entertaining tag match, with The Kid getting worked over for almost the entire match before getting rolled up in a cradle by Billy Gunn. Passable contest.

Well we had something of an event next as Dustin Runnels returned to WWE PPV for the first time since 1991, this time portraying the infamous Goldust character. His opponent was another man making a return to PPV after an extended absence, Marty Janetty. This is a standard match from both guys, Goldust doing some weird homo-erotic stuff with Janetty fighting and losing as the underdog. The best match of the night so far.

From the best match of the night we go to the worst with Yokozuna (with Jim Cornette and Mr Fuji) was building up toward an eventual poorly executed face turn as he took on Mabel (with Sir Mo). Basically, they fall out of the ring brawling after a few minutes of sloppy action, Zuna falls on Cornette and both guys get counted out.

The next match wasn't a match at all as newly crowned INtercontinental Champion no showed his match with the annoying Dean Douglas and was stripped of the title. Your winner by forfeit and NEW IC Champion Dean Douglas. Unfortunately for Douglas he'd earned the ire of Razor Ramon with some condescending comments he made in his "classroom" backstage at Summerslam and so out came Razor to challenge him for the title. Razor was competing in his second match of the night (though admittedly he didn't do much at all in his tag match) but still was able to defeat Douglas in a slightly sloppy, but still decent, match to win the Intercontinental Championship from Dean Douglas. Douglas' reign had lasted just shy of 15 minutes.

Now comes Bret Hart to do some guest commentary on our main event of the evening, the big WWE Championship match with Diesel taking on Hart's brother in law and former friend the British Bulldog. A few months earlier the Bulldog had stunned everyone when he turned on his tag team partner Lex Luger and joined Jim Cornette's group of evil cronies. Cornette had made a play for the WWE Title the month before, getting his tag team of Owen Hart and Yokozuna to challenge Shawn Micheals and Diesel in a match where the tag belts, the IC TItle and the WWE Title were all on the line. Owen had pulled out with Bulldog taking his place, but Owen had returned late in the match, substituted back in for Bulldog and got pinned. So here they would meet one on one and this is actually not a bad match at all. Both guys display their power, but in the end Bret Hart just can't take it anymore, storming the ring from the commentary table and attacking Bulldog, causing a disqualification. Geez, I wonder if those two will settle this in the ring in the near future? By this stage the Diesel character had been acting like a cross between a good guy and a bad guy and fans were just starting to turn on him noticeably.

Anyway Diesel kept his title, Razor had won the Intercontinental Title, Goldust had debuted, Helmsley had continued his winning streak and a new brother vs brother-in-law rivalry had well and truly ignited. Not a bad two hours really.

Another stinker from 95!
callanvass26 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Live from Winnipeg, Manitoba

Attendance: 10,339

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, Jerry Lawler & Jim Ross

Gorilla Monsoon announces that Shawn Michaels can't compete in his match with Dean Douglas tonight. As a result, Dean Douglas is the new Intercontinental Champion. Shawn must also forfeit the Intercontinental Title to Dean Douglas. Dean's not out of the woods totally, though. He has to defend the title against Razor Ramon.

Thoughts: There were rumors that Shawn didn't want to job to Dean Douglas and they did this because of that. He really did get attacked at a Syracuse night club, though.

Fatu Vs Hunter Hearst Helmlsey

Hunter wins with the Pedigree. Far from great, but this was actually better than I expected. Both of them worked hard and even managed to throw in some creativity here and there. The result was never in doubt, but I appreciate the effort from both guys. One thing bothered me, though. It annoyed me when Fatu didn't sell the DDT. He no-sells it and gets up right away. That move was made famous by Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Disrespectful, in my opinion.

**

After the match, Hunter does an interview with Jerry Lawler, but Henry Godwin sneaks up from behind and almost slops them both with a slop bucket.

Tag Team Championship

The Smoking Gunns (C) Vs Razor Ramon & The 123 Kid

All four are babyfaces here, but The Kid was showing heel tendencies. Razor has the match won when he hits Billy Gunn with The Razor's Edge, but The Kid wants the tag to pin Billy instead. They take too much time and Billy ends up pinning The kid with a roll-up. Not a bad match. It had enough excitement to keep you engaged throughout, even if the result was predictable because of The Kid's heel tendencies.

**1/2

After the match, The Kid attacks The Smoking Gunns and steals the titles until Razor calms him down and makes The Kid give the titles back.

Marty Janetty Vs Goldust

This is the wrestling debut of Goldust. He wins with the Curtain Call. This was a pretty inauspicious debut for Goldust. Not only was this match somewhat dull, but rather sloppy at times. Marty was a good choice for Goldust to go over in his debut, but Goldust's methodical style didn't mesh well with Marty.

*1/2

King Mabel (W/Sir Mo) Vs Yokozuna (W/Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji)

I wouldn't wish this match on my worst enemy. Both are heels, but Yokozuna was on the verge of a face turn. The combined weight between the two of them is over 1200 pounds! Yokozuna is getting the face reaction from the crowd. The result is a double countout when both men battle outside the ring. This was absolutely laughable to watch. Admittedly, it's a hilarious disaster with some unintentionally funny moments. Thankfully, it was short.

DUD (zero stars)

Shawn Michaels hands over the Intercontinental Title to Dean Douglas, who is now the new champion. This is one of those times where Shawn "lost his smile"

Intercontinental Championship

Dean Douglas (C) vs Razor Ramon

In a very controversial finish, Razor wins the Intercontinental Title with a side suplex, but the referee doesn't see Dean's leg under the ropes. They unintentionally created sympathy for the heel. Thanks to politics from The Kliq, this really devalued the Intercontinental Title. I actually dislike Shane Douglas, but it's hard not to feel bad for the guy. Even the crowd was deflated, and this was pro Razor crowd! The match was below average and a bit too slow for my liking. It picked up a bit after a while, but not enough to get me fully invested.

*3/4

WWF Championship

Diesel (C) Vs The British Bulldog (W/Jim Cornette)

Bret Hart comes out for commentary. Bret Hart chases Jerry Lawler away from the announcer's table (Yay!) Bret will face the winner of this match at Survivor Series. Davey Boy wins by DQ after interference from Bret. Davey Boy provoked Bret by slapping him at the announcer's table and Bret lost his cool. This was a pretty poor main event. Normally, I would praise working on the leg as good psychology, but there was WAY too much of it. Davey Boy worked on Diesel's leg for almost half the match! The lack of action really hurt this one as well. If you look closely, hints of a Diesel heel turn were there.

Diesel isn't too pleased about Bret costing Diesel the match and the two get into a fist fight over it. Officials and other babyface wrestlers come in to try to break it up, but they keep on brawling as they go off the air.

*1/4

Final Thoughts.

This is a pretty bad PPV for the most part. The best match on the card is only **1/2 stars. The main event is really boring and almost stunk up the joint with how lazy it was. Vince didn't have much to work with in 1995, but that doesn't excuse him for all the crap we had to endure. Believe it or not, things were looking up for the WWF. At Survivor Series, Bret defeated Diesel for the WWF Title and ended the failed Diesel run. The product was about to get edgier as well. Oh, yeah! Some guy named Stone Cold Steve Austin would debut a couple of months later in January of 96.
