Four of Sir John Betjeman's poems set to music and performed by a starry cast
amandacharles12 November 2004
The big screen follow-up to Betjeman's Britain. NOTE they are not the same film as the IMDb page states. Betjeman's Britain was made the previous year by Anglia Television with more poems, a higher budget, and sadly it shows. However, like its predecessor, this charming little film again united some of the great names of British film and television in a format that has since been several times imitated, though perhaps not bettered.

As one critic of the time put it 'records for posterity an England that is all to rapidly disappearing' - and now has! Film buffs may be interested to know that the poems and music had apparently been recorded long before both films were made. So the pictures and performances had to be made to fit the words and music, rather than the other way around. Well worth a look, if you can find it anywhere.

I also would like a copy of Late Flowering Love.

Being related to one of the support actresses, I also would very much like a copy of Late Flowering Love. I also remember seeing this film as the accompanying "B" feature to Raiders of the lost Ark when it was released in 1981. This film was released by Paramount and indeed was a gem of a film and a joy to watch. I understand that it was filmed in the countryside around Evesham, Worcestershire in the United Kingdom. Does anyone know if it is available on any format, video or DVD and if so where would I obtain a copy? I thinks that there must be copies somewhere and I hope that someone will get in touch. Thanking you in anticipation.

Betjeman's Britain - Anglia TV
cgkstevenson4 November 2008
Anglia TV's Betjeman's Britain is a 24 minute film with foreword and wrap-up by JB. To the music of Jim Parker are set several poems, notably 'Indoor Games Near Newbury' with Eric Morecambe , and 'Lenten Thoughts' with Susannah Yorke. Peter Cooke also appears in 'Seaside Golf'.

The theme of the programme covers the four seasons.

'Indoor Games' is also featured on a DVD released as 'Summoned by Bells'

I would also dearly like to find "Late Flowering Love" , I can't think of better casting then Beryl Reid in 'Invasion exercise on a Poultry Farm'
