At the beginning, the committee meet to endorse the book to be shown on "the back cover". In 1890, a book would be printed in hardback, and a dust jacket, of present, would be likely plain, especially on a religious book.
The first commercial electricity was in late 1889. As such, the time machine builder would not have had any access to electricity let alone the lights and fancy electrodes.
