A Gesture Fight in Hester Street (1900)
Hester Street was a location in New York, which was the home and workplace to Jewish people back in the day. This comedy features a salesman trying to sell ties when he gets into a fight with another salesman who is trying to make his way down the street. While the two are hitting one another a cop comes along. A GESTURE FIGHT IN HESTER STREET is just one example of racial comedy that appears to have been popular back in the day. The only "joke" here is that two Jewish men are fighting and selling things. This material certainly isn't funny today and I have a hard time believing that too many people were laughing at this in 1900.
