Engaging drama with standout performance

First, ignore the IMDB & standard used movie description as well as the box cover. The couple do not make a suicide pact at any point, at least in this movie. As for the box cover picture, there is no rope bondage. The most used title also is misleading. The lead character might be an office lady but it's never spelled out. Plus there is no rape in this movie at all. Director Satõ's original title "Save the Last Dance for Me" is better suited.

Really this movie is mainly about a disturbed woman and her obsession with death. With a little sex adventures thrown in as it is a pink film. There are scenes with very heavy mosaic (blurring) that often indicates unsimulated sex but as it's very large & heavy mosaic you can't see anything at all to know. Be aware the story does take a few dark or depressing turns.

The lead actress Kiyomi Itô was brilliant and part of why this movie works. This is also the first film by Hisayasu Satõ that clearly shows his trademark style to come. Notably several scenes filmed in public, often without them being aware a movie is being filmed.

The story definitely kept me engaged throughout. The sex scenes at least for myself, I found uninteresting. They were often part of the story but just for me, uninteresting. Still I recommend giving this movie a watch.

So good my favorite Satô by far its kind of like L'Invitée by Simone de Beauvoir but with a lot of sex scenes and with the whole obsession with representation and representation of representation that Satô frequently has.
