In a 1996 interview with Rajiv Shukla, Shahrukh said that he asked for the director's phone number from Anupam Kher, called her and said he would be interested in the role of Immi. After discussing the script, both wanted to make the film together. However, Shahrukh requested that the film begins shooting in September of the following year (this meeting was in December of previous year). According to Shahrukh, she called around February and said she would not like to wait longer and will go ahead and make the movie with another actor.
Dimple Kapadia was signed for Kiron Kher's role but opted out. Next Amrita Singh was signed but she got pregnant. Thats when Kiron Kher was signed .
Many stories did the rounds that Shah Rukh Khan was advised not to do the film as he was now a huge commercial star.
The film did not have a theatrical release in British Columbia, Canada.
Saif Ali Khan was in talks to do the film. He backed out for unknown reasons.
