Ultra-short comedy (just 3 minutes long) in which Max Linder's shoes fall in love with the shoes of the woman staying in the neighbouring room at their holiday hotel. Not a new idea, but Linder improves upon previous versions.

Adorable, Charming Silent from Max Linder
overseer-322 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The story is simple: Max and a pretty young lady, whom he has never met before, arrive at the same time at a luxury hotel on the Riviera, each for a little vacation by themselves. They are placed in adjoining hotel suites. Both Max and the pretty lady place their shoes outside their hotel room doors to be cleaned by staff, and the shoes fall in love. They dance around together and they hug and "kiss".

Once back in their shoes, the lady and Max find their feet are quite restless. All of a sudden the shoes fly off their feet and take off, trying to re-unite. Max and the lady chase off after their shoes and meet at a park bench, and put their shoes back on. Max and the lady then fall in love too and start to kiss. Finis.

Although this film was made in 1912 you already see film artists like Max Linder were experimenting with time lapse photography and special effects. It's very effective, very romantic, and quite charming.
