Nice History from Edison
Michael_Elliott15 December 2010
Gun Drill by Naval Cadets at Newport Training School (1900)

The title pretty much tells you everything you need to know for this Edison film. It was shot at the Newport training school in Rhode Island and in fifty-seconds we see a group line up, fire, reload and then do a couple other formations. People often ask me why I bother watching films from this era and I always find the answer to be rather simple. I enjoy seeing a thing of our past. Sure, this movie isn't going to be entertaining in the same way as we'd watch one today but I always find in interesting to see things that actually happened and took place in the past. You can always watch a current movie that tries to recreate 1900 but this here actually shows us. We get to see men from 1900 serving their country and this includes seeing the uniforms worn and what type of rifles they were using.
