Another "Laugh" at Silents
Film Fun (1955)
** (out of 4)
Yet another film that takes silent movie clips and adds narration for laughs. This one is from RKO-Pathe and is worth viewing for just one reason but we'll get to that later. We see clips from three different movies and as you'd expect we get "comedy" from narrator Ward Wilson. As a silent buff I really have no problem with the clips being used for humor as various studios did this. Carey Wilson and Pete Smith were two better known voices who tried their hand at this. I don't mind the attempt as long as we get some laughs but sadly there aren't any here and in the end the only real reason to watch this thing is to see the older films. D.W. Griffith's A CRY FOR HELP is one of the films shown here and features Lillian Gish, Lionel Barrymore and Harry Carey. To date this one has never been released to video so getting to see at least clips of that made sitting through the film worth it.
